Brandweer Ouddorp beter voorbereid op natuurbranden met nieuw duinvoertuig

On May 6, 2026, the Rotterdam-Rijnmond Safety Region handed over four new dune reconnaissance vehicles to the fire stations in Hoek van Holland, Oostvoorne, Rockanje, and Ouddorp. The vehicles have been fully operational in Ouddorp since May 11, 2026. The upgrade is intended to help the fire service work faster and better in dunes and other hard-to-reach nature areas along the coast, particularly during fires and rescue operations. With the new vehicles, the safety region is replacing older and different types of vehicles that were still in use. By opting for four identical vehicles, the work becomes simpler and clearer for the fire teams. Stations can also more easily take over the vehicles from one another when necessary. This should improve cooperation during incidents in the dune area. The vehicles are used to quickly assess the situation during wildfires and to assist people in the dunes and on the beach. Among other things, they transport hoses and other equipment to places where standard vehicles cannot reach. This allows the fire service to bring a fire under control more quickly. According to the safety region, this has become more important due to longer dry periods, a higher risk of wildfires, and increased activity in coastal areas. According to the safety region, the arrival of the new vehicles also fits in with preparations for the beach season. During this period, more visitors come to the coast, increasing the likelihood of incidents. The fire crews involved have already practiced with the vehicles. For instance, the fire department in Ouddorp did so on May 8, 2026, during a training evening.
