Department of Neurology Organizes Stroke Awareness Walkathon on World Stroke Day Srinagar, October 29: On World Stroke Day, the Department of Neurology, Super Speciality Hospital, Shireen Bagh, Government Medical College Srinagar, organized a large-scale Stroke Awareness Walkathon at the picturesque River Front, Rajbagh, aimed at educating the public about stroke prevention and timely management. The event drew enthusiastic participation from around 200 people representing various walks of life, including senior citizen groups, the Group of Concerned Citizens (GCC), the Central Government Pensioners’ Welfare Association, the Department of Education Kashmir, B.Sc. and MBBS students, and doctors from different hospitals across the Valley. The Walkathon was flagged off by the Worthy Principal and Dean, Government Medical College Srinagar, Prof. (Dr.) Iffat Hassan Shah, accompanied by Prof. (Dr.) Bashir Ahmad Sanaie, Head, Department of Neurology, and Dr. Rubina, Medical Superintendent, Government Super Speciality Hospital, Shireen Bagh. Speaking to the media, Prof. (Dr.) Bashir Ahmad Sanaie, Dr. Atif Rasool Kawoosa (Assistant Professor, Neurology, and Organizing Secretary of the event), Dr. Tanvir Hassan Baba (Consultant Neurologist and Co-organizing Secretary), and Dr. Sheikh Hilal Ahmad (Assistant Professor, Neurology) emphasized the importance of preventive measures in reducing the growing burden of stroke in society. They highlighted that whenever people notice the warning signs of stroke, they should immediately #ActFAST and seek urgent medical help. Pamphlets containing important information about stroke symptoms, prevention, and emergency response were distributed among the participants. The event successfully blended scientific awareness with social participation, reaffirming the department’s commitment to promoting neurological health and stroke prevention in Kashmir.
