The First & Second "Final Edition": The BMW Motorcycle That Refused to Be Forgotten
In this "Bike of the Day", we're doing things a little differently by featuring two incredible BMW R100s, each telling a unique story about what "last edition" truly meant for BMW. First up, Abhi, co-owner of Iconic Motorbikes, introduces his personal 1984 BMW R100 CS "Last Edition". Back in the early 80s, BMW believed the future of their motorcycles lay with the new liquid-cooled "flying brick" platform, which offered more horsepower to compete with Japanese bikes. They announced a limited run of 740 "last edition" bikes with the 1000cc boxer motors, including 175 of the R100 CS model. These bikes featured special paint and two seat options. However, loyal BMW fans and customers, who valued the boxers' torque, reliability, and simplicity, mounted a "customer revolt." This led BMW to backtrack and bring the R100 back into production, much to the frustration of those who had paid extra for the "last edition." Abhi's bike, with over 91,858 miles, is a testament to the enduring appeal and reliability of these classic machines. It features dual plug heads, higher compression pistons, and a CC products triple clamp. Next, Eric Zimmerman, a successful Director of Photography in Hollywood and photographer for Iconic Motorbikes, shares his fascinating 1995 BMW R100 Mystic. This bike represents "the end of the line for the Airheads" in BMW production, excluding a small batch made for South Africa until 1997. Though originally a Mystic with a GS frame, parallever, and distinct features like a GS tank and plastic tail section, Eric has extensively modified and "backdated" it. He transformed it to resemble a 70s BMW by taking an old-style tank, building a new subframe for an old-style seat, adding old-style engine covers, and more. Despite its vintage look, Eric's Mystic retains modern handling and braking thanks to the updated front end and parallever. It also boasts significant performance upgrades, including high compression heads, a "lumpy cam," 40mm Bings, and a Remus exhaust for a much louder and "rowdier" sound than stock. The bike was even making close to 80 horsepower with flat slides at one point! Join Abhi and Eric as they showcase these two distinct interpretations of "what last meant to BMW." Don't miss the sound-off between Abhi's relatively stock R100 CS and Eric's custom-built R100 Mystic! //// EVEN MORE ICONIC! Iconic Merch & Prints: https://store.iconicmotorbikeauctions...
