Old Two Hairs

Old Two Hairs By: Keith Michael Rau Verse One Paula called him Two Hairs, and the nickname stuck somehow, It still gets a laugh from family whenever we hear it now. But Bill was more than just a nickname everybody knew, He left a trail of love behind in everything he'd do. His voice could fill a church house, deep and warm and strong, And when Bill spoke, folks listened, 'cause they knew where he belonged. A deacon and a Scout leader, always willing to be there. The kind of man who made this world a better place, Just by the way he lived each day in faith. Chorus Thirty years have come and gone since Bill was called back home, But the love he gave his family hasn't faded, it's only grown. We still see him in his daughters, in the values that they share, And every story that gets told still finds old Bill right there. Verse Two Three little girls called him Daddy, they were always his greatest joy, The first two came close together, then a third eight years down the road. Some folks say she was a surprise, but everybody knows, She was one more gift from heaven sent to warm his heart and home. He was good at every sport, though one story still gets shared, A fly ball found his sister one day standing unaware. And he'd run out of gas so often we'd just smile and shake our heads, Now those little family stories are some of our favorites yet. Chorus Thirty years have come and gone since Bill was called back home, But the love he gave his family hasn't faded, it's only grown. We still see him in his daughters, in the values that they share, And every story that gets told still finds old Bill right there. Bridge He fought diabetes nearly all his life and never asked for more, Just kept showing up for those he loved like he'd always done before. Then one day our son came too early and there wasn't time to go, The hospital was miles away, and the moment wouldn't slow. While fear filled up the room that day, Bill stayed calm and sure, And helped bring that little miracle safely into this world. That's the kind of man he was whenever someone needed care, Steady hands and steady faith, that's how we remember Two Hairs. Final Chorus Thirty years have come and gone since Bill was called back home, But the love he gave his family hasn't faded, it's only grown. Fifty years was far too few, that's something we all still say, But the trail of love he left behind still guides us every day. Outro Paula called him Two Hairs, and the nickname lingers still, But when we tell the stories now, we're really talking about Bill. A father, friend, and faithful man whose love is everywhere, And we're all still blessed by all the love he planted there. ©2026 Keith Michael Rau All Rights Reserved.
