La Historia Real de la Alameda Central | El Parque Más Antiguo de América | 1592 d.C.
The oldest park in the Americas was built on the site where the Inquisition burned people alive. The Alameda Central is not just the historic garden in the heart of Mexico City. It is literally a park built on human ashes. The Holy Office's burning ground—the official site where the Autos-da-fé ended with public executions—was located exactly where today there are benches, fountains, and families strolling. In 1649, the largest Auto-da-fé in the history of New Spain ended there. 109 people were tried. The executions took place next to where the park is today. There is no sign in the Alameda that mentions this. The park itself was founded in 1592 as an exclusive space for Spaniards—Indigenous people and those of mixed race were forbidden from entering. It was remodeled by Maximilian. The remains of Benito Juárez are buried on its edge. And Diego Rivera's most famous mural—the one featuring La Catrina—depicts 400 years of Mexican history unfolding in that very spot. 📌 Subscribe to The Unknown Roots and turn on notifications. 🔔 More videos from the channel: ▸ The True History of Chapultepec Forest ▸ This is What the Inquisition Was Like in Mexico City | 1571 AD ▸ The Second Inquisition in Mexico City | The Untold Stories 📚 Sources: ▸ Guillermo Tovar de Teresa — "The City of Palaces" ▸ Solange Alberro — "Inquisition and Society in Mexico" ▸ INAH — Historical Records of the Historic Center of Mexico City ▸ Diego Rivera Mural Museum — Historical Documentation of the Alameda Central Hashtags: #AlamedaCentral #HistoryOfMexico #MexicoCity #Inquisition #NewSpain #ColonialMexico #TheUnknownRoots #HiddenMexico #HistoricalDocumentary #TrueHistory
