Later, the man was released to appeal the conviction, under electronic monitoring, but, according to the victim, the fear remains. She reports that the panic device provided for her protection malfunctioned and criticizes the effectiveness of the protective measures and the performance of the justice system. Upon being informed that her ex-partner had been released, she says she once again feared for her life and sought protection again. "My world collapsed," she lamented, describing the feeling of insecurity in the face of her abuser's freedom.
