In that part, Descartes sets out his theory of emotions or passions, which bases all other passions on the six principal emotions: Wonder, Love, Hatred, Desire, Joy, and Sorrow. We examine each one of these, looking at how they work, and what their effects are, and then discuss how passions of the soul can be useful or harmful to us.
