What would you do on your FIRST day in JAPAN?

How we found Japan's best coffee on our first day in Japan? Narita to Yudanaka, Eel, Shinshu and Japan's best coffee - Family Road Trip Across Japan, Episode 1 Join us, Shane, Michelle, Georgia and Brandon, as we undertake an epic road trip around Japan. Almost 4000 km across the islands of Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu. An epic journey chasing cherry blossoms, dango, wagyu, gachapon and volcanoes. From freezing Nagano snow to sweltering under the Kyushu sun and everything in between. This will be our fourth trip to Japan. Every time we scratch the surface it seems more opens up and the less we know. Japan is the most amazing place in the world. It took us 4 trips to Japan to figure out that Narita was more than just the airport. It has one of the best coffee shops anywhere in Houei, it has temples and shrines, and Narita has the best eel, unagi, restaurant we've ever been to. Houei Coffee & Store, pronounced Ho ee, was the very first coffee shop we went to on this trip and will be the very last 4 weeks later. Probably had something to do with it being in Narita, right near the airport. Nearly every town in Japan has a specialty dish. In Narita it is eel - called unagi in Japanese. One of the best places to get unagi in Narita is Kawatoyo Honten and it is where we went for lunch for some superb eel. The eels are butchered right outside the restaurant so they are very fresh. We had a quick look at the large temple, Naritasan Shinshoji before jumping in our rental car and driving half way across Honshu to Yudanaka-Shibu Onsen in Yamanouchi. Yamanouchi is in Nagano Prefecture. We checked into Yudanaka Yasuragi, our Ryokan, a Japanese Guesthouse, where we had a fabulous multi-course Kaiseki meal which included the star of the show, Shinshu beef.
