Mercury Outboard Low Oil Alarm Switch Repair

If you are getting a low oil alarm on your Mercury or Mariner oil injection outboard, it is probably the oil level switch inside the oil tank. It is commonly thought that this switch cannot be repaired and a new tank must be purchased at the tune of $150+. The problem is caused when the magnet gets detached from the float. This video shows how I was able to remove the float, reattach the magnet and reassemble it. CAUTION: While I was able to effect the repair I have not been able to test it under operating conditions so I cannot say how long the repair will last. I had already ponied up the dough for a new tank and installed it. Anyway, this repair would be inexpensive to at least try before spending the money on a new tank. IF YOU DO THIS REPAIR, PLEASE COME BACK AND COMMENT ON YOUR RESULT FOR THE BENEFI OF OTHERS. THANKS.
