📚 RESEÑA+ANÁLISIS 📖| Forastero en Tierra Extraña - Robert A. Heinlein | PENNYLINE
📚📚 REVIEW of the classic science fiction novel "Stranger in a Strange Land" by Robert A. Heinlein 👇👇 🔴 If you want to buy the book: https://amzn.to/45AGwKr The novel's premise follows "Mike," a human born on Mars who, after the death of his entire crew, was raised among the Martians, a species completely different from humans and with entirely different social norms. When a mission returns to Mars 20 years later, he is "rescued" and taken to Earth. The novel explores his reactions to Earth culture and his attempts to adapt and then expand his philosophy. Heinlein wrote this novel as a reimagining of "The Jungle Book," featuring a boy raised by Martians. Mike serves as the pretext for analyzing Earth's social norms through the eyes of someone who is literally a blank slate for human culture, thus revealing how inherent our most basic social preconceptions are. The novel is narrated in the third person by a narrator who oscillates between omniscience and subjective perspective, switching between the main characters as the author sees fit. The most important and interesting character is Mike, this Martian-human, whose way of thinking, reasoning, and seeing the world presents a narrative challenge. Because of this, the narration can initially be confusing until you begin to grasp the concepts it uses, but it gradually becomes clearer with the context. The other characters are much less developed, but they are not merely tropes. The only exception is Dr. Hershaw Jubal, as he is the moral spokesperson for all the philosophy Heinlein presents in this novel, his usual "wise old man" and an ever-accessible wellspring of wisdom. Although he invites reflection, it cannot be denied that he is a contrived device and that his speeches often feel forced and excessive. As for the creation of the world, this future Earth is not particularly surprising and has become somewhat outdated, although it does contain original elements and concepts that have transcended the pages, such as the "Fair Witnesses" or waterbeds; in contrast, Martian culture is very well-developed and imaginative, especially with the abilities Mike acquired while growing up there. Now, while I really enjoyed the first half of the novel, the second half takes a religious turn that's hard to swallow, especially with all the conclusions Mike reaches. Even so, it's worth reading for the thoughts it evokes and its influence on later culture (INCLUDING DUNE!!). Here's the Goodreads link: / stranger-in-a-strange-land
