24 primary games spanning 25 years and countless spin-offs, mobile games and even an actual movie. It’s fair to say the Need for Speed series of video games by EA has had a significant impact on the racing genre. It doesn’t always hit the mark. Across so many releases, there are bright sparks and outright duds, but at least there has been some variation and it’s not just a cookie-cutter yearly release. With the news that Criterion Games is back on NfS development duties and the launch of Hot Pursuit Remastered late last year, now is the time to look back and reflect on what has made this franchise so successful. The new game in 2022 can’t come soon enough in our eyes.
