When asked about the appeal of late-night dramas, Odagiri revealed, "The late-night slot allows me to create works that suit my tastes and hobbies. I used to like TV Asahi's late-night slot, but I recently realized that (TV Tokyo's late-night slot) offers even more freedom." Odagiri, who had his prime-time drama "Kazoku no Uta" (Fuji TV) cancelled in 2012, candidly shared his feelings, saying, "It had incredibly low ratings, and I thought, 'I hate prime time, if I'm going to do TV, it has to be late-night or on WOWOW.' I felt like I only wanted to do late-night shows." The drama is an adaptation of the manga of the same name, written by Yuho Hijikata and illustrated by Akio Tanaka, which is serialized in "Weekly Manga Goraku" (Nihon Bungeisha). The story follows investigator Muraki (played by Odagiri) as he solves a series of mysterious requests that come to the Okawabata Detective Agency, located in a multi-tenant building along the Sumida River in Asakusa, Tokyo. Hitoshi Ohne, director of dramas such as "Moteki" and "Mahoro Ekimae Bangaichi," is in charge of both directing and writing the script. Renji Ishibashi and Maya Koizumi will also appear. Ishibashi, Koizumi, and director Ohne were also present at the press conference. Director Ohne, who said he had wanted to adapt the original manga into a film for three or four years, explained the reason for casting Odagiri, saying, "I was waiting for an actor who could play Muraki, and around last year, Odagiri started to look just right. It was the perfect time, so I offered him the role." Odagiri quickly agreed, saying, "Well, I'm 38 now, so I'm probably past my prime," but then added in his own laid-back manner, "There are some roles that you can only really play in your late 30s. There's nothing wrong with aging." Director Ohne then chimed in, "Let's call it the charm of middle age." The drama will air every Friday at 12:12 AM starting on the 18th in the "Drama 24" time slot.
