Subscribe to "MAiDiGiTV" here↓    / maidigitv   Actor Joe Odagiri attended a press conference for his starring drama "Reverse Edge: Okawabata Detective Agency" (TV Tokyo) held in Tokyo on April 15th. When asked about the appeal of late-night dramas, Odagiri revealed, "The late-night time slot allows me to produce works that suit my tastes and hobbies. I used to love TV Asahi's late-night slot, but I recently realized that (TV Tokyo's late-night slot) offers even more freedom." Having previously starred in the primetime drama "Family Song" (Fuji TV) which was canceled in 2012, Odagiri candidly shared his thoughts: "It had really low ratings, so I didn't want to do primetime anymore. If I were to do TV, it would have to be late-night or on WOWOW. I had a feeling I was only interested in late-night slots." The drama is an adaptation of the manga of the same name, written by Hijikata Yuho and illustrated by Tanaka Akio, currently serialized in "Weekly Manga Goraku" (Nihon Bungeisha). The story follows investigator Muraki (Odagiri) as he solves mysterious cases that pour into the Okawabata Detective Agency, located in a multi-tenant building along the Sumida River in Asakusa, Tokyo. Director Ohne Hitoshi, known for dramas like "Moteki" and "Mahoro Ekimae Bangaichi," is both directing and writing the script. Also starring are Ishibashi Renji and Koizumi Maya. Ishibashi, Koizumi, and director Ohne were also in attendance at the press conference. Director Ohne said, "I've wanted to adapt the original manga for the past three or four years," and explained, "I've been waiting for an actor who could play Muraki, and since last year, Odagiri has really matured. It felt like the right time, so I offered him the role." Odagiri immediately agreed, "Well, I'm 38 now, so I guess my time to retire is over," but added at his own pace, "There are some acting roles that I can finally do in my late 30s. Being retiree is not necessarily a bad thing," to which director Daikon responded, "You could say it's the sex appeal of middle age." The drama will be broadcast every Friday from 12:12 a.m. starting from the 18th in the "Drama 24" time slot.
