Canaan, Egypt, Persia, Babylon, Assyria and Nineveh, and Edom, Moab, and Ammon are not place names from lost legends. Looking at a modern map, Canaan is connected to the Israel and Palestine regions, Egypt to Egypt, Persia to Persia (i.e., Iran), Babylon to southern Iraq, Nineveh to the vicinity of Mosul in northern Iraq, and Edom, Moab, and Ammon to the Jordan region. This video does not simply summarize the current locations of the nations of the Bible. We examine the history of Canaan, where Abraham received the promise; Egypt, from which Moses and the Israelites exodus; Persia, where the door to the return of captives was opened through Cyrus; Babylon, where Daniel and his three friends kept their faith; Nineveh, where Jonah had to learn God's mercy; and Edom, Moab, and Ammon, which were close to Israel yet constantly clashed with them. When you unfold the map of the Old Testament, you see a flow more important than the rise and fall of empires. Although it may appear that powerful nations move history, the true master of history was God. He opened the way for the Exodus even amidst the oppression of Egypt, enabled the faithful to keep their faith during the Babylonian captivity, and prepared the way to return to the ruined Jerusalem through Persia. He even gave Nineveh, which seemed deserving of judgment, an opportunity for repentance. In our lives as well, there are times when we must walk by faith like in Canaan, times when we wish to escape like in Egypt, and times when we must stay even though we did not want to, like in Babylon. However, God, who does not lose the map of the Bible, does not lose the map of our lives either.
