Rainbow Trout Euro Nymphing - Persistence Pays Off

Our season is now closed, so this another one from the vault. A quick visit to Never-Fail pool. I took longer to connect than usual. I tried my usual recipe for success of fishing the fast water and then the main pool. Nothing doing. Reassessing the fast water as I was about to go back to my car I realised I had not fished the very narrow inside seem. A couple of drifts rewarded me with a decent rainbow. I'm not a very patient angler, but I am stubborn 😁. The equipment that caught this fish as follows: The rod is a Loomis & Franklin IM12 11' #3 weight. The reel is a Sage ESN. The fly line is an Airflo SLN Euro Nymph Comp Special. The leader is 30' 12 lb mono, to 10' of 3X Fluorocarbon to the point fly. I tie my own Euro flies. I usually only use two patterns all year. Both are linked here    • Pheasant Tail Nymph - Version 2.0   tied on a size 14 or 10 Barbless jig hook with a 3.0 or 4.5mm slotted bead. The other is this one    • Generic Soft Hackle Nymph - Version 2.0   tied on a size 14 or 10 barbless jig hook with a size 3.0 or 4.5mm slotted bead. On this day I was also testing a small, weighted Pheasant Tailed nymph on the dropper tag. After catching around thirty fish on it, I have declared it a success.
