Underwater since WWII: Deep Inside Norfork Dam

We were given rare access inside an area of Norfork Dam in Arkansas - taking you into a hidden area of this massive hydropower facility that most people will never see. Built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the 1940s, Norfork Dam has helped control the White River system and generate electricity for the region for generations. But behind the concrete walls is a fascinating world of passagers, machinery, and engineering that you must see. During a rare maintenance shutdown, we stepped inside the massive penstock - a water passage that normally carries water from Norfork Lake toward the turbines that generate power. Walking through this enormous tunnel gave us a rare look at the inner workings of one of Arkansas’ most impressive engineering landmarks. This is an area that may have never been filmed before.
