Ja 1240 & Ka 942 - Rolleston 150 (HD)

Over the weekend of October 14th - 16th 2016, Rolleston celebrated 150 years since the town was formed when the railway terminus opened in 1866. To help celebrate a railway theme to the event, Mainline Steam Heritage Trust supplied two steam locomotives Ja 1240 & Ka 942 to take part as a live steam static display in the Rolleston railway yard. Both engines were towed in light steam from the trust's Christchurch depot down the road to Rolleston and back. This was the first time that the trust has had an outing out of Christchurch for a coupe of years after their use of hiring KiwiRail carriages ended when the fleet withdrew. Luckily Mainline Steam has purchased some of these carriages for their own excursion use. Traction engines, tractors, vintage cars and many other forms of machinery which have played a part in the history of Rolleston also took part in the weekend's activities.
