Founded in 1772, Kuno Touen is the birthplace of Kasama ware and has been the oldest kiln in the Kanto region for over 250 years. Designated as an official kiln by Kasama feudal lord Makino Sadanao, it is where Otsuka Keizaburo, the founder of Mashiko ware, learned pottery techniques. The kiln boasts historical value, with 14 chambers and 14 climbing kilns for main firing and 10 climbing kilns for unglazed firing, and has been designated a tangible cultural property of Kasama City.
