Can Compassion Really Fatigue?

Compassion fatigue. We’ve all heard of it and maybe even felt it. Serving in healthcare, we see a lot of pain and difficulty. We attempt to love our neighbors well, but the burdens they carry are often heavy. When we try to “carry” those burdens with them, it can feel overwhelming or even impossible. But we were not made to carry the burdens of the world. But can compassion really fatigue? Or is something else going on?
