In last year's chaotic World Championship, it almost seemed as if no one ultimately wanted the title. Time and again, drivers looked like future world champions, only to lose ground in the rankings for tragic reasons like Didier Pironi or due to persistent defects like Alain Prost or Nelson Piquet. The surprise winner was the previously inconspicuous and unlucky Keke Rosberg, who, driving a Williams-Ford-Cosworth, was able to prevail one last time with a conventional naturally aspirated engine against the increasingly powerful turbos of the other teams. Or let's put it this way...the turbos were always powerful...they just needed to become more reliable.
