TRIBUN-VIDEO.COM - The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) stated that its military launched strikes against more than 80 targets in Iranian territory on Tuesday (July 7, 2026). The strikes came after Washington accused Tehran of attacking commercial vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz. CENTCOM stated that the operation was a response to alleged Iranian actions that threatened international trade routes in the region. In footage released by CENTCOM on Wednesday (July 8, 2026), several aircraft can be seen launching missiles, which then caused explosions in the target area. In an official statement, CENTCOM explained that the targets of the strikes included several Iranian military facilities, including air defense systems, command and control networks, coastal radars, anti-ship missile capabilities, and dozens of small boats belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). "U.S. forces attacked Iranian air defense systems, command and control networks, coastal radar sites, anti-ship missile capabilities, and more than 60 small Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps vessels in and near the strait," CENTCOM said. CENTCOM said the goal of the operation was to weaken Iran's ability to disrupt international trade passing through the strategic waterway. "This operation aims to degrade Iran's ability to continue to attack international trade flowing through the international trade corridor," CENTCOM said. Iran, on the other hand, has denied involvement in attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz, including the alleged attack on the Qatari LNG tanker Al-Rekayyat. Tehran has accused the United States of violating the ceasefire agreement and memorandum of understanding aimed at ending the conflict between the two countries. In response to the U.S. attack, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) later claimed to have launched attacks on 85 U.S. military facilities in Bahrain and Kuwait. This latest tension is a continuation of a series of direct clashes between Washington and Tehran that have been ongoing for several months. Previously, the ceasefire agreement took effect on April 8, 2026. Meanwhile, a memorandum of understanding, which served as the first step towards negotiations, was signed on June 17, 2026. However, after the agreement came into effect, both parties continued to accuse each other of violating the agreement.
