Now I Understand Metroid… And Why It’s So Frustrating

I’ve tried going back to Metroid before… and it never really clicked. The original on the NES felt too unforgiving, too unclear, and honestly, I just didn’t have the patience for it. So this time, I decided to experience it through Metroid: Zero Mission — the remake that’s often considered the best way to get into the series. And this time… something changed. I finally started to understand what makes Metroid so special — the exploration, the level design, the way the world slowly opens up as you gain new abilities. But at the same time, I also experienced the other side of it. The moments where you get stuck. The moments where the game expects you to figure things out that aren’t always obvious. The moments where progress feels just out of reach. In this video, I talk about that balance — how Metroid can feel incredibly rewarding and frustrating at the same time, and why that might actually be the point.
