Canadian premiere of Arctic Soundscapes for clarinet and piano, composed by Jenny Maclay and Orlando Bass. Jenny Maclay, clarinet - https://jennyclarinet.com/ Luis Ramirez, piano - https://www.luisramirez.ca/ Orlando Bass - https://www.orlandobassmusic.com/ Arctic Soundscapes is a musical translation of climate conditions in Longyearbyen, Svalbard. Variables such as temperature, wind speed, and other factors were used to determine pitch, dynamics, and rhythm. The weather data collected in April-May 2025 is the clarinet part, whereas the piano part uses the same formula, but with data from 50 years in the past. This is to show the effects of climate change in the Arctic. This project was completed during an artist residency at the Spitsbergen Artist Center.
