Oleggio - Piccola Grande Italia

The sixth-largest municipality in the province by population, Oleggio is strategically located 14 km north of Novara, halfway between the city and Lake Maggiore, and 10 km from Milan-Malpensa Airport. There are various theories regarding the origin of the name Oleggio. According to early scholars, it derives from V Legio (Latin for Fifth Legion), which in dialect became Vlegio and then Oleggio. Others believe it derives from the Celtic Olesin, meaning "hill on the Ticino River." Recent studies suggest its origin lies in the word ulivetum, meaning olive grove: many olive trees were once cultivated in the area. However, these are hypotheses that have yet to be definitively proven.
