The Witzke family has been linked to the DKW brand since the early 1930s, in São Paulo his grandfather, Mr. Friederich Wilheim Witzke, who adopted the Brazilianized version of Frederico Guilherme, founded Oficina Mecânica Frederico Ltda. in 1954 at 871 Joaquim Floriano Street in the Itaim neighborhood. It was an authorized DKW-Auto Union workshop, and soon after, an authorized DKW-Vemag workshop at 66 Iaia Street, also in the Itaim neighborhood. The Frederico workshop was an authorized DKW dealer until the end of production when Vemag was acquired by Volkswagen in 1967, serving DKW owners until the end of its activities in 2010 at 327 Alvares Fagundes Street. The DKW Sonderklasse in our video was imported brand new by Vemag in 1957 to be the company's vehicle; all maintenance was always performed at the Frederico workshop. In 1975, at age 17, Rene enrolled at Mackenzie University, and his father said, "It's time to get you a DKW."
