Zure melk of niet? Koningin Máxima mag proeven...

Queen Máxima travelled to the town of Veghel in Brabant on Monday afternoon - for the second time within a week. On Wednesday she visited the Sisters in the Kloosterkwartier, and today the opening of Waste-Free Week was on the agenda. This initiative by the “Samen Tegen Voedselverspilling” (Together Against Food Waste) foundation aims to make consumers aware of how much food is unnecessarily wasted and how this can be prevented at home. In the Netherlands, approximately twenty percent of the food produced is not eaten. Waste occurs throughout the entire chain: from the farmer to the plate and from production to restaurants. Preventing food waste promotes a sustainable food system and a better climate. After Queen Máxima had performed the official opening ceremony, she talked to a school class that was learning about shelf life and how to deal with it through a see-smell-taste tasting session. Student chefs also demonstrated how they make waste-free snacks and talked about how they learn to prevent food waste in professional kitchens. Afterwards, companies presented their ideas for combating food waste. © Royal TV
