The Final Steam Specials Over Jointed Track On the S&C

The remaining sections of jointed track on the Settle & Carlisle line were finally removed by 2010. This video shows some of the final steam specials to run over lengths of that track, with its wonderfully punctuating musical rhythm, a far cry from the Continuously Welded Rail which replaced it. Locations are mainly from the northbound climb, with the southbound line having been largely upgraded for the loaded coal trains which ran for many years following the saving of the line. Loco's include 30777 Sir Lamiel, 34067 Tangmere, 5690 Leander, 60009 Union of South Africa, 48151 and 6201 Princess Elizabeth. Also featured is a class 66 on a loaded coal train at Ais Gill Summit, and the famous semaphore at Blea Moor, featured in many shots and removed in 2015 due to new signalling installations for the stone trains.
