Mosteiro da Batalha - Guia Completo do Monumento Património Mundial (UNESCO)
Video about the Monastery of Saint Mary of the Victory, better known as Batalha Monastery, located in that village of the Leiria district. Its construction is intimately linked with the victory of the Portuguese forces over the Castilian army in the Battle of Aljubarrota, in 1385. Fulfilling a promise, king D. João I sponsored the building of this imposing Dominican monastery, initiating a process that would span almost two centuries. Classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, in 1983, the Batalha Monastery is one of the most important Gothic architecture monuments on a world scale, standing as a true compendium of the best architectural and artistic work produced in Portugal at the time.
