Former teachers of Gillian Hector, the first woman to navigate a submarine in Africa, say her legacy will live on. She died with two colleagues when they were swept off the submarine they were standing on while taking part in a naval exercise in Cape Town. Hector is an alumnus of the St. James Roman Catholic secondary school in Shauderville in Gqeberha. Her death sent shockwaves through the coastal city.
