One of three submariners being buried this afternoon

The funeral service for Lieutenant Commander Gillian Hector, one of the 3 submariners, who died when rough seas swept them off the deck of a submarine, is currently under way Fish Hoek. She was the first woman to navigate a submarine in Africa and was undergoing training to become the first female commanding officer. A four member board of Inquiry will begin its work on the 11th of October to probe the tragedy which struck the SAS Manthatisi submarine, claiming the lives of the submariners at Kommetjie last week. Three buildings at the Simon's Town Naval Base will also be renamed in the honour of Master Warrant Officer William Malesela Mathipa, Warrant Officer Class One Mokwapa Mojela and Lieutenant Commander Gillian Hector.
