FONDLY FAHRENHEIT by Alfred Bester
The psychologically twisted and doomed relationship between a murder-prone android and his owner, as told with Bester's characteristically noir style and skewered structure, here with a seamlessly frenetic shifting of perspective. Cited as the author's most frequently published story, this originally appeared in the August 1954 issue of The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction, which reproduced it the following year in The Best from Fantasy and Science Fiction, Fourth Series, and then again in their October 1979 issue. As you can imagine, the list is long, but anthologies include: Spectrum III in 1963, The Stars Around Us in 1970, The Best of Omni Science Fiction in 1982, and The Ultimate Cyberpunk in 2002. Appearances in collections of the author's tales include: Starburst in 1958, The Light Fantastic: The Great Short Fiction of Alfred Bester, Volume I, in 1976, and Virtual Unrealities in 1997.
