Land Rover Series 3 Restoration - Installing the Copper Brake Lines Pt. 17

After taking a few weeks off the project during the winter, I return to the workshop on a sunny weekend to make a start on the brake lines. As you will see, I use the the old lines as a template and replace the entire system with new copper lines, brass unions, brackets and sockets. I have also bought a new flaring tool to seal the lines into the sockets, so I did a few practice terminations before moving onto the main system. I also fitted a set of braided front and rear flexi-hoses which are the 2 inch extended type to cope with the new (and higher) parabolic springs. At first I was concerned about drilling into my new chassis to secure the lines and held them in place with cable ties. But this is not a long term solution given that the copper lines will vibrate against the chassis while driving and eventually rupture the line; they need to be screwed down. So I finally got over my fear of drilling more holes and fitted the original clamps later on. By fitting the wheels to the axles, it really feels like the project is making progress. Not long now until the engine goes in! Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoy the video.
