The Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, received the President of Egypt, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, with the aim of elevating the already close relationship between the two countries to a "strategic" partnership. During the meeting, in addition to elevating the relationship to a strategic partnership, the Spanish and Egyptian government ministers signed several memoranda of understanding related to tourism, development cooperation, the economy and trade, circular migration, and transportation. The meeting took place during al-Sisi's second official visit to Spain and comes at a time of heightened debate in the Middle East after US President Donald Trump proposed that the United States take control of the Gaza Strip and relocate Gazans to other countries such as Egypt and Jordan.
