Respirer par le nez : retrouver sa vraie dimension — Jean Gramling
🌬️ Nasal breathing is not a minor detail: it's a fundamental act that shapes facial structure, ventilates the brain, filters and warms the air, and influences sleep quality. In this episode of "I Was Born Three Times," Soraya Melter interviews Jean Gramling, a former dentist and specialist in the spatial organization of the mouth (SOW), to explore why breathing through the nose profoundly changes our relationship to our bodies, growth, and health. Jean Gramling explains that the nose is not a passive conduit: it shapes the sinus cavities, facial jaws, and frontal sinuses from childhood. Breathing through the mouth deprives these cavities of the ventilation they need to develop properly. The nose filters the air, warms it on inhalation, and cools it when necessary, especially for a brain in full activity. Insufficient brain ventilation can manifest as dark circles under the eyes, poor sleep quality, or learning difficulties in children. ✨ From birth, the mechanism is in place: when an infant nurses, they gently press their nose against their mother's body and breathe through their nose while swallowing. This prevents aspiration and positions the tongue correctly in the mouth. A pacifier can approximate this action, but never fully replicate it. For adults as well, slow, deep, nasal breathing expands the rib cage, develops the maxillary sinuses, and, when it becomes a habit, constitutes a true vital reserve. A person who breathes shallowly, as Jean Gramling reminds us, cannot fully inhale or exhale. Conversely, learning to inhale deeply through the nose paves the way for better defenses against viruses, more restorative sleep, and a more grounded sense of balance. 🕒 Chapters 0:00 Welcome and introduction of Jean Gramling 0:36 Why breathe through the nose and not the mouth? 1:55 The nose: bellows and living instrument 2:47 Shaping the sinus cavities through breathing 3:58 Filtering, warming, and cooling the air 5:38 Children, learning, and cerebral ventilation 6:13 Breastfeeding: the first nasal lesson 7:53 Learning to breathe: slowness, depth, fullness 9:10 Sleep, dark circles, and poor ventilation 9:44 Slow breathing and rib cage expansion 11:28 Defending yourself with full breathing 12:01 Vital reserve and evacuation capacity 12:33 Daring to breathe nasally: the final invitation 👇 And you, have you ever become aware of your daily breathing patterns?
