Last Day in Marrakech - Madrasa Ben Youssef, Souks & Night at Jemaa el-Fna

We started the morning with an incredible breakfast at FATH FAST FOOD (Résidence Essalam, 20 bis Bd Prince Moulay Abdellah) — the most underrated spot in the city! A full breakfast including kids' meals and drinks for just 120 DH. Absolute steal. Tried to get an InDrive but ended up hopping in a yellow cab to Jemaa el-Fna — sometimes the old way just works! --- 🕌 MADRASA BEN YOUSSEF One of the most breathtaking places I've ever stepped inside. Originally founded in the 14th century and rebuilt in 1564–65 by Saadian Sultan Abdallah al-Ghalib, this was once the LARGEST Islamic college in all of North Africa — housing up to 900 students across 130 rooms. They came from across the Muslim world to study theology, law, philosophy, and mathematics. The architecture is unreal — intricate zellige mosaic tiles, hand-carved stucco, ornate cedarwood, and a stunning central courtyard with a reflective pool. Above the entrance, an inscription reads: "You who enter my door, may your highest hopes be exceeded." The Madrasa closed in 1960, was restored and reopened in 1982, then underwent another major restoration from 2018–2022. If you visit Marrakech and skip this... you've made a mistake. Entrance is only 50 DH (10 DH for kids under 12). --- 🛍️ SOUK SHOPPING After the Madrasa, we hit the souks — and wow. Every alleyway is a different world. We browsed through: 🪞 Handcrafted mirrors in every shape and size 🏮 Stunning mosaic lanterns and lamps 🧲 Colourful Moroccan magnets (perfect souvenirs!) 👜 Leather bags, pouches & traditional babouche slippers Spice stalls, argan oil, ceramics, jewellery... The colours and chaos of the souk is something you genuinely can't describe — you just have to be there. Bargaining is expected and part of the fun! --- 🌙 JEMAA EL-FNA AT NIGHT We came back in the evening and it was a completely different city. By night, Jemaa el-Fna transforms — snake charmers, Gnawa musicians, storytellers, henna artists, acrobats, and a sea of food stalls filling the square with smoke and colour. The energy is electric. Seriously one of those places you'll remember forever. We topped off the trip with a ROOFTOP dinner overlooking the Medina the views, the food, the atmosphere... pure magic. If you're in Marrakech, eat on a rooftop at least once.
