Cap and Ball Revolver CHAINFIRE MYTH We've All Been Told
The age-old advice is to shave a ring of lead when loading a round ball in a black powder revolver and that this will ensure a proper seal in each of the chambers. Since they are properly sealed, you'll be safe from chainfire. I'm here to tell you that this advice is true in theory, but it assumes that your revolver's cylinder was milled out properly from the factory. In reality, this advice could end up easily causing a chain fire unless you verify your revolver is safe first. Thankfully, I was spared from having a chain fire on my revolver where 5 out of the 6 chambers were compromised. This video is intended to make everyone aware that even though you think you're doing things safely, you might not be. In this video I will show what happens with a revolver that was not properly milled, how to test for it, and how to repair it.
