Lake Perris top water and finesse fishing [Mid-May 2026]

Beautiful multi-species outing on Lake Perris, getting some great bites on top water and with my own handmade custom worms. Cloudy, cool, and misty morning with 72 degree water temp and a light breeze. Got a nice one on one of my first casts with a walking bait, and had 2 other blow ups. Then had a crappie slam a crankbait, which actually was the first crappie I’ve ever caught at Perris! Rest of the day was a mix of finesse techniques with worms, including catching 3 on dropshot with my own handmade custom 4.5” straight tail worm in a light green pumpkin color! But once the sun burned off the clouds around noon the bite slowed wayyyy down and became a grind with only a few dink bites the rest of the day. Cool to see some bluegill on beds still, as well as some biggg channel cats cruising the shallows. Landed 9 total for the day!
