Pre-spawn fishing Lake Perris [2026 Late Feb/Early March]

Finding that pre-spawn bite and scouting out spawning spots! Spring had sprung at Lake Perris. The warm weather from the week prior kicked the spring and spawn transition into high gear before high winds came in and put a damper on things. Water temps ranged from 62-68 in late February, a huge jump from the upper 50s just the week before. But then when March rolled around so did the winds, dropping the temp back down into the mid-upper 50s. Water levels were also changing, slowly go down. On these outings I found a half dozen or so beds and saw bass of various sizes cruising around or hanging out near the surface in many places. Dragonflies and bugs were all over with some bass trying to eat them off the surface. Big carp also cruising around getting ready for their spawn. The warm weather also looks to have created a bit of an algae bloom, which made it difficult to see in shallower water. Was fun push-polling around the skinny water checking out how the water level changed, hearing the birds and seeing the turtles. One of the rides back was getting gnarly with the chop and wind but the Nucanoe handled it like a champ!
