That's the promise of the Amrit Bharat Express, powered by innovative coupling technology from Wabtec Corporation. In an exclusive demonstration and interview with News Station editor Siddharatha, Prashant Chaudhary, Senior General Manager at Wabtec, unveiled the semi-automatic coupler—a "crush-worthy" marvel designed to eliminate shocks and enhance safety. "This coupler is specially engineered for Amrit Bharat to ensure a jerk-free, comfortable ride," Chaudhary explained, holding up the robust device. Unlike traditional H-type couplers used in older LHB coaches, which left gaps causing abrupt impacts, this semi-automatic version absorbs and dissipates energy efficiently. The secret lies in its elastomer pads—fewer in number during draft (pull) and buff (push) modes—to minimize vibrations. "When two coaches connect, the gap is eliminated, and the reduced pads cut down jerks significantly," he added. The coupler's semi-automatic design allows effortless coupling: coaches snap together automatically upon alignment. For uncoupling, a simple lever provides manual release, ensuring operator control. To verify secure connections, a built-in system retracts fully when engaged, offering a visual safety cue.
