Iași, April 1949. A twenty-two-year-old student at the Polytechnic, with a train ticket home in the inside pocket of his coat, was preparing to leave for home for Easter. That Wednesday, two men in civilian clothes went up to his dormitory on Cuza Vodă Street and handed him a summons "for clarification" from the Securitate. There were no handcuffs, no warrant — just an invitation that he signed willingly, convinced that an hour-long conversation would clear everything up and that he would catch the next day's train. But the regime did not punish deeds, but biographies, and in a windowless basement room, under a permanently lit light bulb, the investigators did not want to find out what he had done — they wanted the names of the others. The train to Dorohoi left without him, and his engineering degree would remain forever unfinished. The channel does not support any ideology and does not incite hatred or violence. We do not justify the crimes of communist regimes and do not romanticize terror, but we try to speak lucidly about the price of the lack of freedom and about the moral choices of people within the system. All characters and stories presented are fictional or composite. Even if real historical places, organizations or events appear in the narrative, they are presented in an artistic form.
