In Bucharest, in the early 1980s, on one of the largest housing projects on Drumul Taberei, foreman Gheorghe Toma is called to an administrative barracks, thinking he will discuss a missed deadline. Instead of the chief engineer, he finds a man in civilian clothes and, on the table, an open brown envelope, stamped twice: the passport application of his brother, who fled to Germany three years earlier. The officer does not threaten brutally — he talks about "understanding", about "attitude", about how "things can be arranged". Seventeen days later, the envelope is replaced with a sheet of paper to sign and with a name that is not his: "The Builder". A docudrama about how an ordinary man, perfectly placed in the middle of a work team, was slowly transformed into a tool — without screaming, without cataclysm, just with the usual trolleybus ride home. How little did it take for an honest foreman to become an informant? The channel does not support any ideology and does not incite hatred or violence. We do not justify the crimes of communist regimes and do not romanticize terror, but we try to speak lucidly about the price of the lack of freedom and about the moral choices of people within the system. All characters and stories presented are fictional or composite. Even if real historical places, organizations or events appear in the narrative, they are presented in an artistic form.
