In Memory of Eaglet GH4 🐥 43 Days Old | Glen Hazel (HAYS) PA 💔 Nature Unscripted

UPDATE: Sadly, GH3, the oldest eaglet at the Glen Hazel nest, has also passed away. GH3 passed away this morning. May 18th 2026. Bound together in life, may they now soar the skies, forever side by side. 💔💔 Glen Hazel (Hays), PA: Eagles Mom and HM2: 1st egg laid Feb 24th. 2nd egg laid Feb 27th.1st eaglet GH3, hatched April 2nd. 2nd eaglet, GH4, hatched April 4th. GH4 deceased May 17th... Yesterday, on May 17, 2026, the Glen Hazel (Hays), Pennsylvania bald eagle nest lost its youngest eaglet, GH4. We are all saddened and heartbroken by this loss. This memorial video respectfully documents the life and final observed hours of bald eagle eaglet GH4 at the Glen Hazel nest. The footage includes moments from GH4’s hatching and portions of the eaglet’s 43 days of life, along with footage from GH4’s final hours before passing away yesterday. Like so many who follow live eagle nests, we always hope to see eaglets grow, thrive and eventually fledge. Sadly, that is not always how nature unfolds. Bald eagle eaglets face many challenges in the nest. Food shortages, sibling rivalry, severe weather, man-made hazards such as fishing line and hooks, secondary rodenticide poisoning from contaminated prey, and diseases such as HPAI (Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza / bird flu) are all known threats faced by wild eaglets. At this time, the cause of GH4’s passing is unknown and cannot be determined unless a necropsy is performed. While some possibilities may be speculated upon, including illness or poisoning, no official cause is known. There is also continued concern for the surviving eaglet, GH3. Prior to GH4’s passing, Mom, GH3 and GH4 had all appeared to show varying symptoms of illness or distress. While Mom seemed the least affected and now appears to have largely recovered, GH3 is still not fully back to normal and currently appears to have a reduced appetite. We are all hoping GH3 can overcome this difficult period and continue toward recovery and eventual fledging. Wildlife live cams allow people around the world to connect deeply with nature and witness both its beauty and its hardships in real time. Though heartbreaking, moments like these are also part of the reality faced by wild bald eagles and many other raptors. GH4 was clearly cared for and protected by its parents throughout its life, and will not be forgotten by those who followed the nest journey. This video is emotional and may be difficult for some viewers to watch. Viewer discretion is advised. The purpose of this video is not to sensationalize loss, but to respectfully honor GH4’s life and acknowledge the difficult realities faced by wild bald eagles, living in nature, unscripted. GH4 passed away at 43 days old ~ over halfway to fledging.
