Plenum Campane Parrocchia Madonna del Fuoco - Pescara ABRUZZO (Cella campanaria)
In this video I'm in Pescara (Italian municipality and province in Abruzzo), precisely in the Parish or Sanctuary of the Madonna del Fuoco. It was born around the 17th century as a chapel which, until 1815, was located on the right bank of the Pescara river. During the numerous war activities that involved the fortress it often became a strategic outpost and in 1815 it was destroyed by General Antonio Napolitani. After more than twenty years of itinerant worship it was rebuilt in Via Stradonetto and inaugurated in 1839. Outside the church is in exposed brick with a tripartite façade enlivened by mirrors and protruding buttresses on the lateral sides. The central entrance is underlined by a slight protrusion of the facade interrupted by a high entablature with a projecting cornice, supported by double Doric pilasters. The central part of the facade ends in a tympanum with an order of small arches typical of the Lombard-Abruzzese Romanesque style. The two side wings have a horizontal closure adorned with the same decorative motif, the left wing continues with the volume of the bell tower. The interior with three naves is punctuated by Doric pilasters and round arches. The raised presbytery area houses a niche on the back wall with the ancient statue of the Madonna del Fuoco. The upper volume of the church is used as parish offices. In 1934 the church became a parish and after World War II work began on the construction of a new sanctuary adjacent to the old one which was completed in 1996. It has an elliptical shape and is preceded by a monumental cross. The bell tower, erected in 1951 at the behest of Don Mario Iocco, has a quadrangular plan and ends in a cusp. It hosts a concert of 6 bells cast by the Pontifical Marinelli Foundry of Agnone on various dates. The VI of 1951 was the first to be placed in the new bell tower while the II of 1956 is the recast of a previous one which fell to the ground in 1948 and became unusable. It was located above the side door of the old church. The remaining 4 bells, melted down in 2002, were added when the Petroni family expressed the desire to remember their son Gigi who died in a plane crash on July 27, 1984. In the meantime, two other families and a construction company have made themselves available to offer one each. The plant was managed by Giannattasio with the motorized blocks for the falling clapper expanse and the electric hammers under the supervision of Don Giuseppe Comerlati. Until 2021/2022 the bells rang albeit with problems until they were silenced and in 2022 thanks to my commitment I did the ringing again and they started ringing again. In 2023, with the approval of the parish priest Don Carmine, I had my friend Matteo Liberatore come to record some melodies and the De Santis Corinaldi Group to repair the numerous breakdowns. Heartfelt thanks to those who helped and supported me in giving this church a voice again. In the video we see the 2 plenum plays and the solemn hint performed respectively 30, 15 and 5 minutes before the solemn Holy Mass.
