LB4S meets WFMD - sturgeons as brand

We are river people – World Fish Migration Day interview II We are river people. For over 6 years, Maria Desimira Stroe has worked to repopulate the Danube with sturgeon, species older than human history itself. “First and foremost, the existence of a sustainable population is paramount.” At the Institute of Research and Development for Aquatic Ecology, Fishing, and Aquaculture in Galați, Romania (ICDEAPA), science becomes hope for the Danube’s future. “Sturgeon to become the Danube’s brand” - that’s the dream. LIFE-Boat4Sturgeon has the aim to save four Danube sturgeon species from extinction by keeping adult broodstock of Danube origin at selected facilities. Rear genetic sound juveniles and release them in the Danube to support wild populations.
