Cortot plays Chopin Etudes Op. 10 no. 5, Op. 25 no. 2 & 9 (1954 studio recording)
In 1954, Cortot set out to record a vast amount of repertoire in the studio, including the complete Chopin Etudes Op. 10 & 25. However, the 76 year old Cortot was in ill health and the only material issued from the Etude recordings were the three Etudes presented here: Op. 10. no. 5 in G flat major, Op. 25 no. 2 in F minor and Op. 25 no. 9 in G flat major. Though the pianist's age makes itself known at times, we can still find some astonishingly fleet finger work, and beautiful tone throughout. In the interest of comparison, you may listen to a radio recording of Op. 10 no. 5 and Op. 25 no. 9, also made in 1954, here: • Cortot plays Chopin Etudes Op. 10 no. 5, O...
