ROAD TRIP! to the Little River Canyon National Preserve, Alabama

A road trip along the rim of the Little River Canyon National Preserve, on the top of Lookout Mountain in northeast Alabama. This is a gorgeous drive through a stunning natural area with beautiful overlook points as well as several nice waterfalls. Early in the trip, we stopped in at the Jacksonville State University Little River Canyon Center which has helpful maps, educational displays, a gift shop, and employees who can answer your questions. After this, we drove across the canyon and visited the must see Little River Falls just over the bridge. The amount of water going over the falls depends on recent rainfall, but it was relatively heavy the day we were there. There is access to the water above the falls here, but be VERY, very careful to stay away from the falls themselves as they are very dangerous. Next we crossed back over the canyon and drove the entire Little River Canyon Rim Parkway. This 23 mile drive along the canyon rim has 8 (or 9) overlooks, several trails if you are adventuresome and fairly fit, and one very unique rock formation that you can simply drive by real slow. Note that the last 11 miles of the Parkway from Eberhart Point to Canyon Mouth Park is steep and windy in areas and impassable to trailers and RVs.
