Rotisseries: A Study (By Numbers)
Micki and I decided to make a video about Rotisseries in an attempt to help the whole acro community advance in skill. This is an important move because it is a part of many other washing machines. This move was originally made by Lux. 1 and 3 are your classic Rotisseries. You can start in bird and then turn to an Inside Reg Side Star. There are two side stars in each Rotisserie. Numbers 1-8 are all similar in that there are two specific Side Stars: an Inside Rev Star and an Outside Reg Star. You may be wondering why a "regular side star" is one in which base and flyer face away from each other. This bothers a lot of people, including me, but right now most people call a side star with the flyer facing away from the the base a "regular side star" and a side star with flyer facing the base is a "reverse side star." I made a video to explain all the names of side stars here • Video Numbers 2 and 4 are the same as 1 and 2 except in reverse direction. Again reverse and forward are relative terms. 1 and 3 are called forward because this direction of rotation was done first. 5 and 7 are the same as 1 and 3 except without the base's hands. 6 and 8 are the same as 5 and 6 except reverse rotation. From 9-16 these are a different kind of Rotisserie because there are two different side stars: an Outside Reverse Star and an Inside Reg Star. You can start these by starting with back fly and then turning to a Reg Side Star. I have left in the mounts so you can see how to get into it. 9-16 are organized in the same way as 1-8 but I will explain them anyway. 9 and 11 are Outside Reg/Inside Rev side stars forward with base hands forward rotation. 10 and 12 are the same as 9 and 11 except reverse rotation 13 and 15 are the same as 9 and 11 except without the base's hands 14 and 16 are the same as 13 and 15 except reverse rotation. There are more versions of Rotisserie than these. One I was not able to film is to have the flyer keep her legs together and hold her body in a plank. This makes it considerably harder. A few more points on form. Flyer should keep legs as wide as possible (in these variations) without strain. In other words, the flyer needs to keep the angle of her legs at her hips in the same way as she would if she were standing up (not tilted to one side). Practicing by a mirror helps. In stepping from one hip to the other the base needs to let one quad drop all the way to his chest. The foot reaching the hip needs to extend farther than most people at first feel is necessary. The base needs to touch his heel to the flyers hip. As a result the flyer will roll into the perfect position on the flyers foot. The greatest difficulty people have with this move is in the base reaching far enough with his foot. So if its not working, reach the foot farther. The hands are also tricky. Make sure you do the hand grips and re grips as they are shown in the video. Keep the flyer as upright as possible. Keep as much weight as possible on the base's feet. Conversely don't put too much weight in the hands. The regrip is far easier when hands touch only slightly. The bases feet are for holding all the weight and the base's hands are for steering.
