From forgotten dirt ovals to speedways swallowed by time, Indiana’s racing history is far bigger than most people realize. The Hoosier State is the birthplace of American motorsports, and according to Allen E. Brown’s History of America’s Speedways, more than 280 motorsports venues have existed across Indiana. Today, many of those tracks have vanished without a trace.
