Lecture 3a: Ancient Cosmologies and the Origin of Time
Hello everyone, and welcome back to the channel. In this lecture, we leave the modern scientific method behind to begin our grand historical journey into the origins of time. But before we can look at the ancient skies, we have to address a massive, deep-seated public misconception: the belief that science cannot give us reliable, trustworthy information about the past because "nobody was there to see it happen." To dismantle this skepticism, we look at the core philosophy of historical sciences like archaeology and paleontology. We frame the entire investigation through a model we are all familiar with—a crime scene investigation. Just like the investigators on television shows like CID, Crime Patrol, or even cartoons like Scooby-Doo, scientists do not give up just because there is no direct video or audio witness of a past event. Instead, we look at the physical clues left behind in the present, build a testable model, and use it to accurately reconstruct what happened yesterday, thousands of years ago, or even millions of years ago. This 30-minute session provides the vital philosophical and forensic foundation we need before we look at the actual clues our ancient ancestors left behind in the night sky. About Me: My name is Muaz, and I am a graduate Astrophysics student at LMU Munich (The University of Munich) in Germany. My current research and master's thesis specialize in the Hubble Tension, one of the most active observational crises in modern cosmology today. What You Will Learn in This Video: 1. Introduction to Ancient Cosmologies & The Origin of Time. 2. The Neolithic Revolution: How the end of the last Ice Age changed humanity. 3. Overcoming Skepticism: Can science give us reliable facts about the past? 4. The CID & Scooby-Doo Model: Reconstructing past crime scenes using present clues. 5. The Forensic Method: How archaeology and paleontology apply the rules of testability. If you found this lecture valuable, please consider subscribing to follow our complete cosmology journey step-by-step. Share this video with students, or space enthusiasts who want to learn how the machinery of science truly functions. Thank you for watching, and I will see you next Saturday at 6:00 PM PKT (3:00 PM Munich time) as we look at the first physical tracking of the Sun and the Moon! #Philosophyofscience #Archaeology #Paleontology #Physics #Astrophysics #LMUMunich #TheIntelligibleUniverse #Cosmology #ScientificMethod #ForensicScience #HubbleTension
