African Paint Artist: Tingatinga, a Tanzanian paint art form, is created using only six colors, as it is believed that the fewer colors used, the closer one gets to happiness. SHOGEN, who traveled to Tanzania alone without any prior connections and spent time with the local people, learned from them and cherishes the importance of "belief." He believes that "belief" is what casts a spell on oneself and brings happiness to others. Born in Kyoto in March 1986, he worked as an ordinary office worker at a cosmetics company in Nagoya after graduating from university. One day, however, he was captivated by Tanzanian art, "Tingatinga," which he happened to see in a general store, and decided to dedicate his life to painting this art. The next day, he quit his job and, in 2014, traveled to Africa alone without any prior connections or language skills.
